Hello and welcome back to our Summer term. Can you believe this is the last term that we will share in Reception? This term we welcome Miss Atkinson back and say goodbye to Miss Kitts. There is much excitement about this term, especially as we will be using the amazing work of Julia Donaldson to help us with our learning. This week we have been using the text Spinderella - a lovely story about a spider who just loved to count and adored all things number! Let's look at our invitations to come and play
During the holidays we changed the theme of our outdoor shed. We created a Julia Donaldson story shed. In here we can wear costume linked to the characters in the story and act out and retell our favourites. Here we are in action
We started the week of by looking at the books Julia Donaldson had written. We didn't realise just how many she had done. We identified the title of the books, located her name and talked about the different stories and what happened in them. We shared our favourites with our friends and had a great time
We developed our creativity in the creative area this week. Combining our art work and our funky finger work we created our very own Spinderella's. This activity prompted a lot of lovely discussion, problem solving and working together to support each other with tasks such as finding the end of the selloptape and holding things in position. Great work everyone. Perseverance definitely pays off
We have studied the story in lots of detail this week. We identified the speech bubbles in the story and talked about how they denote that someone is speaking. We then thought about the different things that the characters might say for example What did the Hairy Godmother say to Spinderella, what did Spinderella say to her brothers and sisters? Here we are creating our own speech bubbles using our Julia Donaldson themed pencils
We took the theme of spiders into the maths area this week. We had to order the spiders and then add the correct number of legs to the body. We then challenged ourselves to complete the challenge in under 5 minutes. Ready, steady, go!
We have also been busy in the Funky Finger area. This area in our classroom changes daily and encourages us to use our fingers and develop our pincer grip to help us with holding a pencil correctly. We love the daily challenges and it's a very popular space. Here we are threading and using our tweezers to collect spiders
And finally, we welcome Mrs Shirley back to our class. Mrs Shirley will come each Wednesday afternoon for a number of weeks and help us develop our music skills and knowledge. This week we sang, repeated phrases and using the wooden claves to make music. We had a great time and cannot wait for next weeks session. Take a look at us in action
Next week we will be using the text Stickman to help us with our learning. Here is one of our very talented artists who recalled where the story of Stickman was set and created her own version of it outside using chalks. Great work!
Have a wonderful weekend'
