Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. This week we have been exploring the familiar text Stickman. A wonderful story that has enabled us to learn all about the features of different environments. Let's take a look at what we have been learning about this week
We continue to update our Sticky Learning book each and every Friday. We thought you might like to see some of the lovely work we included linked to last weeks text of the week Spinderella
We started the week off by looking at the local environment. We used pictures of the things we see on our walk to school and compared them to the beach scene in the story Stickman. The children sorted, categorised and looked at differences and similarities. We then created a list.
We also took a look at the river scene from the story. We talked about what we could see, what is different to our local environment and then we created our own landscapes using salt dough. Here we are with our own interpretations of what a river and landscape looks like
We also took the time to think about what would happen to the wildlife and sea life in the ocean where Stickman landed if we put waste there. We looked at different materials, sorted and classified them according to what they are made from and then talked about what materials can be recycled and re-used to create new products. Fabulous learning everyone!
We took a lot of our maths learning about subitising outside this week. We have explored super speedy subitising in lots of different ways to help the children understand that when we are subitsing we look at the patterns we can see and say the number without the need for counting. So we have been playing bingo, super speedy kim's game with penguins and hop skotch using die faces. Perfect examples that have helped us to make sense of this concept
We also went into the great outdoors and looked at the changes in the environment from the Spring term to the Summer term. The biggest difference is the lovely blossom tress that are not in full bloom at the back of our playground. We took our art bumbags out and created sketches about them. Have a look at us in action
Also in Maths this week we have been exploring 6 or not 6. The children are experts at showing 6 in lots of different ways - they know 3 + 3 = 6, 5 + 1 = 6 and so on. Here we are exploring 6 or not 6 independently in provision
Towards the end of the week we have created Lost posters to try and help Stickman find his way home. Look at the progress the children are making with their writing it truly is amazing the care and dedication they show. I am super proud of them all
And finally as we explore the different places Stickman may have visited on his travels around the world we looked at some of the different language children in our class speak. We explored how to say hello in Polish, Romanian and French to name just a few. Here we are using an atlas, map and the Internet to help us with our learning. Bonjour Stickman!
Next week we will be using the text Snail and The Whale to help us with our learning. Take a look at the link below to listen to the story in advance ....
Have a wonderful weekend
