Hello and a warm welcome back to Reception W's class blog. This week we have bene using the text On The Way Home - a lovely story about a little girl named Claire who met lots of interesting characters on her way home from the park - or at least in her imagination she did! Let's take a look at some of the lovely invitations to come and learn we have explored this week
After listening to the story we started off the week by trying to recall and remember all of the characters that Claire met on her way home. This was great for developing our memory as there were a lot of them! We then created a road map and added the characters to it in the order she met them. Take a look at our great work!
As well as developing our memory we have been busy developing the strength in our fingers by engaging in lots of fun and exciting funky finger activities. We have created rainbows with pom poms and tweezers, we have been threading and lots of other things. Keep up the good work everyone
Everyday we teach Read Write Inc, this is how we teach reading to the children. This starts at 9am and it is really important to be in school on time so that children don't miss these sessions. This week we have been learning the sounds i n p g o - remember to practice using the sheets we have been sending home! Here we are practising forming these letters on big pieces of paper, the children also have been keen to chalk the letters outside
In Maths this week we have been learning about the number 3 and 4. We have been looking at the different ways we can show 3 and 4 and how they still equate to the same number. We have also been thinking about what makes a pattern. Here we are exploring patterns. This is something you can work on at home using objects around the house for example cup, plate, cup, plate and so on! How many creative ways can you make a pattern?
In PE this week we took our scarves into the hall and used them to air write our read write inc sounds and letters. We also worked with a partner and practiced throwing backwards and forwards and the importance of doing so underarm. Here we are in action
In the story on the way home Claire passed a number of houses to reach her own home. We started to think about how our homes and houses are all different. We looked at the different features of houses and set about using different materials to make our own. We worked alongside a friend to help us with our ideas and bringing them to life - great for developing friendships and helping each other. We are then going to create a giant road map and add the houses to them - we cannot wait to show you at parents evening
And we even looked at the road signs we may see on the way to school and we cut them in half and then set ourselves a challenge to create matching pairs. Well done everyone!
Followed the next day by creating road maps of the things we pass on the way to school. Take a look at some of these lovely examples and the detail they have included
What a lot of wonderful we have crammed into a week! That's all for this week. Remember reading books need to come to school everyday please and that we change them on a Friday. PE day is Wednesday please send the children to school dressed ready in their PE kits
Have a wonderful weekend
