week ending 28th February 2025

Welcome back to our Spring 2 class blog. This half term we will be learning all about Growth - growth of animals, plants and of course.... us! We will be using different texts of the week to help focus our learning and to develop our knowledge. This week we have been using the text Oliver's Vegetables. A lovely story about a little boy Oliver who said he didn't like vegetables only chips. What he didn't realise is chips are made from potatoes and they are a vegetable. Let's look at some of the lovely invitations to come and play we have explored this week smiley

We started the week off by recording all of the things we already know about Growth and Change. We already hold such a lot of wonderful information and facts and we cannot wait to add to this work at the end of the term and record all of our new learning. Here we are in action yes

At the start of the week we did exactly what Oliver did in the story. We picked our own carrots, these were carrots with a difference though as they had words on them! We selected a carrot, pulled it from the soil and read it to our friend. What a great idea enlightened

We also thought about the difference between healthy and treat food. We had so many great discussions about the benefits of fruit and vegetables so much so that we created our own heathy dinner plates smiley

We also took our theme of healthy eating and vegetables in particular into the Maths Area. Here we ordered numbers from 1-5 and 1-10 and correctly completed the jigsaw picture of different vegetables. Great work everyone smiley

We also looked at the effect exercise has on our bodies. We used the story of the Hungry Caterpillar in our Yoga sessions. We love Yoga! smiley

Where better to learn about fruit and vegetables than outside. This week we took our learning outside. We added soil, seeds, plant pots and other things into our sand tray. To say it has been a hit is an understatement. We have heard so many new words such as root, shoot, weeds, stem used by the children in their play yes

In our creative area this week we have been looking at the work of Guiseppe Arcimboldo - an artist who created portraits using fruit and vegetable images. We re-created our own versions of this. Look at the wonderful work we produced smiley

We also created half images of fruit and vegetables. We studied the colours, shape and inside of different fruit and vegetables and then created a symmetrical picture. Great attention to detail. Well done smiley

Towards the end of the week and after lots of discussions and hands on exploration of vegetables we created fact files detailing all we knew about certain vegetables from the story of Oliver's Vegetables. Take a look at our writing yes

We also walked along the story map and retold the story of what Oliver discovered in Grandpa's garden. Here we are perfecting our memory and story telling skills smiley

Next week we will be using the text Oliver's Fruit Salad to help us with our learning. Please click on the link below to listen to the story before Monday
