Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. Wow what a week we have had. This week we have been using the story of the 3 little pigs to help us with our learning. Let's take a look at some of our lovely invitations to come and play and learn ![]()
We started the week off by listening to the story and talking about the characters. WE have listened to a number of 3 Little Pigs stories as the week has gone on- talking about similarities and differences. This is a lovely activity and one that we complete on a weekly basis so that children develop their confidence when speaking and learn that although the stories are similar there are sometimes things that may differ. Here we are sharing our story maps with our friends and using the famous microphone ![]()
We also designed a house for the little pigs to keep them safe from the big bad wolf. We had some lovely ideas about ways to make it strong. Here are some of the designs that we produced ![]()
We have exposed the children to so many lovely traditional tales during this half term and we have a number of others to come. We talked to the children about which tale has been their favourite to date. We then created our own front cover with a title and illustration. We make super authors ![]()
The 3 Little Pigs story has made our maths area a very popular space this week. We have matched pigs to their houses according to the number of spots on the door. We have used this as an opportunity to work together, share ideas and work as a team ![]()
Our phonic area has also been really popular and we are encouraging to apply and use independently the skills and knowledge they have from our RWI activities. ![]()
We also thought about the different materials the pigs choose to build their house from and which would be the strongest. We used different materials, tested them for strength and then reported on our findings ![]()
We also innovated the story of the 3 little pigs. We created a new title and front cover. Take a look at some of our lovely book suggestions. They sound very interesting and exciting ![]()
We have also created houses using the materials the pigs did. We had a house of straw, one of sticks and one of bricks and the big bad wolf came along (hair dryer) and blow the houses down all except for the very strong house of bricks. What a fabulous time we had chanting I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow you house down ![]()
In conjunction with our story innovation we have been listening to and exploring traditional tales books with a twist. These are some of the ones we have enjoyed this week ![]()
Our Learning to Learn space has been a hive of activity this week, again taking the theme of the 3 little pigs and busying ourselves learning through hands on exciting activities ![]()
Next week we will continue with our theme of Traditional Tales and we will use the lovely story of Little Red Riding Hood as the focus for our text of the week. If you would like to listen to the story please click the link below -
