week ending 3rd October 2025

Hello and welcome back to this weeks blog. This week we have been using the lovely text In Every House on Every Street - a wonderful story about how each house on a street is different but equally special and unique. Let's look at some of the lovely provision we have had out and used to invite the children to come and learn smiley

This week in Read Write Inc we have been learning the sounds c k u b f. We have been developing our skills writing these sounds and this week sees the start of our word time work - this is were the children use their knowledge of letter sounds and push them together to read words for example m a d - mad. Take a look at us practising our letters and using magnetic boards in word time. Remember to keep up the good work in practising at home using the letter sheets we send smiley

We started the week off by thinking about the people who live in our house and our families. This created a lovely discussion amongst friends about brothers, sisters and other family members. We used the houses in the writing area to show who lives with us smiley

In keeping with the theme of houses and homes we had to recognise different numbers and add the correct numbered envelope to the letterbox. A great activity for number recognition and number ordering smiley

We have also taken our learning about houses and homes into the creative area. Here we encountered watercolours for the first time in Reception. Today we learned about colour mixing, taking our time and paying attention to what we are doing and how to use certain colours for certain tasks smiley

In our funky finger area this week we have explored making houses using lollipops and used pegs and peg boards to develop our pincer grip smiley

Our phonics area is always a popular place for the children to come and learn.  This week we have been looking at initial sounds and deciding what the objects begin with - if the sounds matched we added a peg. We have also been matching letter sounds and saying them aloud. Here we are in action smiley

Next week we will be back with a wonderful story called A New Home for a Pirate - Pirate Jed who no longer wants to be a pirate on the sea but instead wants to swap his ship for a house high on a hill. If you would like to listen to the story before Monday please click on the link below -
