Hello and welcome back to this, our final blog, before the half term. What a wonderful week it has been and hasn't the sun shining made a huge difference? Let's start by looking at our lovely invitations to learn based on our text of the week Jasper's Beanstalk
We started the week off by creating a story map depicting the main themes in the story. We talked about the days of the week and made our own map. Take a look at these amazing illustrations
In the story of Jasper's Beanstalk Jasper did something everyday to encourage his bean to grow. On Monday he found it, on Tuesday he dug it, on Wednesday he watered it and so on. This gave us the perfect opportunity to develop our understanding of the days of the week. Here we are ordering them
On the final day Jasper discovered that his beanstalk had grown. This gave us a good idea. We decided that if a beanstalk was to grow in our own gardens what we would like to find at the top of it. We had some very interesting answers. Take a look at our wonderful writing
So we thought that we would like to plant our very own bean. We created greenhouses using a plastic bag and cotton wool. If we put these in a window and water them carefully - not too much - they will begin to grow a shoot and roots - We would love you to send us the pictures via Weduc of them growing so we can share them with each other. Here are we creating our own greenhouses
Thank you for all of the wonderful Easter Bonnet entries. We were truly blown away with the time and effort you spent creating. We had a great time at our Easter parade and proudly showed off our efforts. Well done everyone
If that wasn't enough excitement we went out onto the ALPS for the second time. We had a great time in the sunshine. Once again we had our story and our snack outside in the fresh air and used lots of natural materials to help us create self portraits. Take a look at these amazing efforts. We truly are a creative bunch!
On our return to class we used as much green collage that we could find and gather to make our own beanstalk. We problem solved, ripped, tore and cut shades of green and then used them to make a beanstalk. We added ourselves at the bottom of the beanstalk to show just how tall they are
In other news this week we continue to access the Read Write Inc portal to help us develop our segmenting and blending skills. This is what we look like in action
And finally we took our creativity outdoors in the sunshine. We recorded all of the things that we have learned about Growth. We wrote words, drew pictures, shared our knowledge with each other and enjoyed the heat on our backs. Here we are embracing our knowledge
Well that's a wrap for this half term. What an amazing time we have had together and what a wonderful few weeks of learning. We cannot wait to do it all again in the Summer term. When we return to school in the Summer term we will be using Julia Donaldson texts as the focus for our learning. Our first text of the week will be Spinderella - a spider who absolutely loves numbers! Click on the link below to listen to the story -
