Week ending 6th December

Welcome to our blog, we've had an icy week working with the book 'Arctic Animals' by Jill McDonald. We've found out about lots of animals that live in the Arctic eg. narwals, polar bears, Arctic foxes. Did you know that penguins don't live in the Arctic? They live in the Antarctic. In literacy, we looked at animals frozen in ice and thought of the best ways to get them out, we thought of hot water, a hair dryer, the sunshine or a hammer. We have drawn animals and written what they are called, we have looked at pictures and written about the animals and what they look like.

In maths, we have been working with numbers 4 and 5, we have subitised, sorted amounts, looked at numerals and matched quantities to it. We have played fast fingers to match an amount and showed the correct number of fingers on one hand. Using coloured blocks we made repeating patterns. We have looked at circles and squares, we sorted shapes and described them. We looked at shape pictures and looked for circles and triangles in the pictures.

We've had lots of activities in our classroom based on the Arctic and the animals that live there. We've drawn Arctic animals, mixed blue and white paint to make different shades of cold colours. We've looked at pictures of winter trees and made our own pictures. We've also been very creative with the play dough and made our own Arctic animals.

We've had lots of activities going on in our classroom to help us with our learning and develop our skills.

This week we put our Christmas tree up in class and all helped to decorate it and it looks wonderful. On Friday we had a whole school Christmas lights switch on and watched the other classes on the computer as they switched on their tree lights too. We have been practising a lot for our Christmas Sing-a-long that takes place next week and are really looking forward to it.

Next week we will be using the text, 'This zoo is not for you' by Ross Collins. If you would like to hear the story please click the link below.

Have a lovely weekend.
