week ending 6th February 2026

Welcome back to this weeks class blog. What a fabulous week it has been! Let's start off by looking at all of our Little Red Riding Hood invitations to play and learn smiley

We started the week off by writing a letter to either the Big Bad Wolf or Little Red Riding Hood trying to help them both and solve a problem. We talked about the things they both did that they may need to think about and we came up with a plan that would keep all of the characters safe and happy. Here we are composing our letters smiley

We took a series of events from the story and then cut them up and had the challenge of putting them in the right place and order. We then used our memory and recall skills to orally retell the story - we used intonation and used our voices in different ways to show when different characters were speaking. Great work everyone smiley

In line with the story we added different amounts of cakes to Grandma's basket. We had to identify the number, count carefulyl and then place the matching number of cakes into the basket. This required a lot of attention and focus but we did a great job!

We also talked about the different types of food that Grandma may have wanted in her basket. We carefully used scissors and cut out and labelled the food and added it to a basket. These are fabulous and are now on display in our classroom smiley

We also created symmetrical pictures about wolves. Look at the detail we have included on our pictures smiley

As we do every week with our traditional tales we innovate the text. We change the charcaters, settings and sometimes the events in the story. This week we let our imaginations run wild and changed 4 things! Have a look at our new stories.

We continued the theme of Little Red Riding Hood in the maths area. We have ordered numbers to 10 and beyond, made up our own number sentences using a tens frame and also used the language more than and fewer than. Why not try this at home with random objects? gather some objects and share them and encourage your child to tell you who has more and who has fewer. We think you'll be really impressed yes

Our phonics area has also been really busy this week. We have explored fred talk and read the word, we have written letter sounds in lots of different materials - sand, cloud dough and on large paper. Remember to keep practising the green words we send home with your child (group dependent) being able to read the words super speedy is a great skill smiley

Last but not least our fantastic Number Day! What a fabulous event. We counted, sang number songs and explored everything there is to know about numbers. What a lot of learning. We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as we did taking part smiley

Finally, next week we explore our very last traditional tale and we have saved a very very tasty one till the end. Can you guess? Yes it is the Runaway Pancake - a lovely story about a pancake that rolls away to avoid being eaten. If you would like to listen to the story before Monday please click on the link below -
