Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. What a fun and exciting week we have had using the story of The Three Little Pigs. This has given us such a wonderful week of learning. Let's look at some of the activities we have explored this week in continuous provision
On Monday we created a story map. We talked about the events in the story and created illustrations to match. We used our Read Write Inc knowledge to help us hear, say and write the sounds in words
We loved exploring patterns this week in the writing area. We looked at the different things we can do with pens and pencils and created some of our own marks. Here we are in action. This activity is great for encouraging the children to start at the left and move to the right when writing
We also developed this further by looking at what the characters from the story said in the book. The children have loved writing and saying the different repetitive refrains such as I'll huff and I'll puff and not by the hair on my chinny chin chin! See if they can remember anymore from the story. Here are some of the speech bubbles the children created
In the creative area we have explored colour, shape and form using different art materials. The children had some daffodils and used their observational skills to look, touch and smell and then try to translate that onto paper. The children each selected their own mark making tools and set about recording what they would see. We can see that we have some budding artists in our midst
We also used different collage, media and materials such as glue and sellotape to create mask of either the wolf or the pig. We learned so much from researching on the Internet - we problem solved, developed our physical skills and used our language to help and support our friends when we found it tricky!
We also took the theme of bricks into our Phonics area. We built and created our own brick wall by reading some of the words on them. The walls we built using words we could read was huge! Well done everyone
We also created and read our own number sentences using our stem sentence knowledge from our Maths activity lesson. We have been learning about and exploring number bonds to 5. Here we are looking at numbers that we can add together to make 5.
We have taken the theme of The Three Little Pigs into our Learning to Learn. Here we are exploring, engaging and experimenting with our activities
One thing we do love in Reception W is our yoga. We have loved creating shapes, poses and different holds. This really helps us after lunch to remain focused on our afternoon learning. Here we are in the midst of the 3 Little Pigs yoga session. Try www.cosmicyoga.co.uk for more great ideas and short yoga videos linked to favourite stories
We also created our own houses to help the 3 little pigs stay safe from the big bad wolf. We explored different materials and looked at their properties and then we worked together with a friend to make houses. We talked about what we could use to act as the wolf blowing and the children suggested a hairdryer! so that's what we did! Take a look at these fabulous houses. A great activity to promote working together, compromising and taking turns
We had such a great time celebrating Number Day. We explored Maths in every area of the classroom. We looked at and listened to Maths themed stories as well as hands on exploring of numbers, shapes and other aspects of Maths such as weight. Look at all this learning
Next week, our final week of the Spring 1 term we will be focusing on our last Traditional story - Elves and the Shoemaker. This will be a lovely end to what has been a fantastic half term of learning. On our return after the break we will be focusing on Growth - growth of animals, plants and more importantly, us as humans.
Have a wonderful weekend
