week ending 7th June 2024

Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. What a wonderful week we have had. This week we have been learning using the text Superworm. Superworm is super strong, Superworm is super long, watch him squiggle, watch him squirm, hip hip hooray for Superworm! smiley

Let's start off by looking at some of the wonderful invitations to play and learn we have explored this week. Ask your child what they have enjoyed in class this week yes

We have also changed our reading area into a jungle in anticipation of our work about Monkey Puzzle in a weeks time. And also, my favourite, we have transformed our outdoor shed into a Pizza Parlour. We have loved exploring these 2 new areas this week. Here are some of the changes we have made smiley

We started off the week by thinking about the characters in the story and what they said. We read the story, used our listening ears and discussed with our friends the types of things we could write in the speech bubbles. Take a look at our wonderful work smiley

We have also been busy using our phonic skills and knowledge in different ways in and around the classroom. We love to practise what we learn in RWI in our play. Here we are making words, reading words and showcasing our ever developing skills. Keep up the good work at home everyone it really makes a big difference yes

We have also been exploring our musical talents this week. We have been looking in greater depth at the composer Rossini. An Italian composer who created most of his music from his bed! We listened to perhaps one of his most famous compositions William Tell overture and then we created our own music based on a nursery rhyme. We talked about the pulse, created a steady beat and recorded our efforts. Take a look at us as being mini composers enlightened

In keeping with our text of the week we have created a wormery in class. We read the instructions, developed our pattern skills creating alternate layers of sand and soil and learned all about how worms breathe through their skin. We watched some clips on You Tube to find out about worms. Did you know they actually have hair on them? No nor did we until today! I wonder if you could find out any more worm facts and send them into school? We could share them at carpet time smiley

In other news from the classroom we have been reading and understanding different phrases this week. Mrs Evans set us the challenge of reading a sentence independently and then finding the correct picture - a really good way of developing our speed and accuracy when reading as well as helping us to understand and talk about what we have read. Take a look at us in action this week and look at all of the phrases we can read. Practice really does make perfection!

Next week we will be using the text Monkey Puzzle to help us with our learning. If you would like to listen to the story in advance of Monday please click on the link below

Also if you would like to listen to the track we have been learning about in Music please see the link below - we can identify the instruments they use, talk about the pulse and recreate it using our body as percussion. Ask us to show you smiley
