Well Being project

I have now introduced the Wellbeing Approach to our pre- school and have implemented activities, songs, stories, songs and meditation which all the children seem to be enjoying.

Below is some information on why it is important.  I will be uploading photos of the children each week on the different things we have done.

  • Emotional Regulation and Resilience: Wellbeing helps children learn to identify, understand, and manage their emotions effectively. They develop healthy coping mechanisms and the resilience to bounce back from setbacks and challenges, which is a critical life skill.
  • Cognitive and Academic Success: Children with good mental and emotional health are more engaged and motivated to learn. Emotional regulation and social skills are fundamental building blocks for cognitive development and future academic achievement.
  • Healthy Relationships: Nurturing wellbeing in early childhood, often through secure and responsive relationships with reliable adults, helps children learn to build and maintain healthy connections with family, friends, and peers. This sense of belonging is vital for overall happiness and quality of life.
  • Physical Health: Mental and physical health are closely linked. Children with good mental wellbeing are more likely to be physically active, eat healthy, and get enough sleep, which supports their overall physical health and development.
  • Prevention of Future Problems: Early intervention and the promotion of wellbeing in preschoolers can help prevent the development of behavioral problems, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues later in life.
  • Sense of Security and Control: Consistent daily routines and predictable environments provide preschoolers with a sense of stability and security. This feeling of safety allows them to explore their independence, build confidence, and manage daily life's ups and downs

I have put a mirror in the cosy area with affirmations on, Each day the children like to look in the mirror and pick an affirmation to say to themselves.

You will have noticed your child coming out with a weekly affirmation, we focus on this at morning carpet time, and repeat it daily.  The children use their loud voices and are really pleased once they have finished.

The children enjoyed matching the pictures to the correct emotion - Happy, Sad, Angry.

This week I introduced the story "Its ok" a story about being kind to yourself when things feel hard.  The children really enjoyed this and loved to repeat "Its ok - I love you.  Im with you today"

If you would like to listen to the story with your child, I will add the link below.
