This week we have been working on our computing topic all about gaming. We have been using Purple Mash to consider what age to make our game for and its playability. e have really enjoyed working on characters and settings. Don't forget you can access Purple Mash at home!

This week we had a visitor who helped us with our topic Volatile Earth.

Earth Explorer Visitor

 

We learnt a lot about volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. We pretended to visit some volcanoes including Mount Vesuvius, Mount St Helens and Mount Etna. We spoke about volcanoes being a mountain or hill that can erupt.

This week, we finished our class novel The Iron Man. It is a very interesting tale about the mysterious Iron Man and the people he meets. We really enjoyed making predictions and considering who the Iron Man was. 

 

In maths, we have been developing our problem solving skills using inverse operations to help us. We did so well at creating fact families and using our column method too.

This week, we have started our new music topic which is African drums. We learnt to play different rhythms on the djembe, djun-djun and conga drums. We worked on our drumming techniques to use the correct part of our hand and hit the drum to play bass and tone sounds. Our music teacher was super impressed, he taught us some call and response patterns too. What a great start to our new topic!

Welcome back to the blog and Happy New Year!

 

This week we have started reading Matilda as part of our writing lessons. We have created story maps and character descriptions all about Matilda. We are also reading the Iron Man by Ted Hughes as our class novel and it is getting very exciting. We have made predictions about the story as we have read on. 

 

In maths, we have been developing our knowledge with addition and subtraction. We have been doing these with two 3 digit numbers and have done so well. 

 

We have started our new topics for science and geography which are volatile earth and forces and magnets. We have done so well remembering the continents and have worked so hard this week.

What a busy week it has been! We started with a science investigation into the permeability of soil. We set up the investigation using 5 different types of soils and observed what happened when the water was poured on.

We also used the VR headsets to help with our history lesson. We were learning all about Skara Brae and we were able to see different Stone Age houses through the headsets.

This week we have completed our cave art topic and created some amazing pieces of artwork. We also looked at positive and negative space, we created artwork using our hand prints too.

 

On Friday, it was the reindeer run and the children ran with their antlers to raise money for Wigan and Leigh hospice.

This has been our art week, with our topic being Prehistoric Art. We have explored colours found within nature and used charcoal to create some beautiful animal images. We used spices like tumeric and paprika to create a colour palette and prepare for our final art piece. We can't wait to see how they turn out.

This week we have started our art topic all about Prehistoric Art. We have looked at cave paintings and used our sketching skills to create a beautiful robin. 

 

In English, we had focused on using the past tense and conjunctions within and recount. In maths, we have been using the column method to help with our addition and subtraction, we even used exchanges.

This week, we had a poet called Andy Tooze come to visit school. He came to do a workshop and helped us to created some fabulous animal poems. It was so interesting to hear his different poetry and the very fast tongue twisters.

What a busy week! We started with Odd Socks Day on Monday as part of our anti bullying week topic. Then we had a visit from an archaeologist who told us all about the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze and Iron ages. She was so interesting and taught us so much.

This week we have started a new class novel called Stone Age Boy. It is all about a boy who is transported back in time and meets a character called Om. We have been using this in English lessons when using adjectives and created some fantastic story maps retelling the story so far.

In DT, we created some fabulous cards which had a moving part. We carefully created a mechanism and made sure to use a pivot and lever so the movement was smooth.

In maths lessons this week, we have been using our estimation skills when looking at number lines. We have also been flexibly partitioning different numbers using equipment and models to help us. 

 

In English this week, we have been learning about instructions and planning some of our own. We looked at imperative verbs and practiced using some in our writing. 

 

In music, we have been developing our skills on the xylophone and playing three different pieces of music.

We have been working on a character description in English this week. We created our own pirates and created paragraphs describing them. We created some wonderful similes and used a range of metaphors too. 

 

In maths, we have been building our timestables knowledge especially our 2s, 5s and 10s. 

 

In music, we have been practising using a range of notes and singing alongside the song.

What a busy week it has been in Year 3.

 

We have been learning our 3 and 4 times table this week. It helps if we can practise our times tables on TT Rockstars at home.

 

In English, we created a WANTED poster for Captain Hook using adjectives and similes.

Our PE day is Tuesday. Children can come to school in their school PE Kit- red t-shirt, navy shorts and pumps.

 

In English this week we have been collecting adjectives to describe Jim Lad, one of the characters in our class novel, The Pirates Next Door.

 

In Maths, we have worked in our groups to explore different aspects of number. Some of us have been looking at multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Some of us have been exploring tens and ones.

Hello and welcome to the first blog of Year 3F!!!

 

We have had a fantastic first week back and are all looking forward to the year ahead.

 

We had our first music lesson with Ben and learned how to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on a xylophone. Amazing!!!
