What an amazing first week back! We have started learning all about the Romans and have been on our trip to Chester. We went to the Grosvenor Museum and looked at the Roman artefacts. We also did a workshop to see what life as a Roman was like. We finished the day with a Roman soldier training lesson and marched through the city whilst chanting.

This week we had a visitor who helped us with our topic Volatile Earth.

We learnt a lot about volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. We pretended to visit some volcanoes including Mount Vesuvius, Mount St Helens and Mount Etna. We spoke about volcanoes being a mountain or hill that can erupt.

This week, we started our class novel Matilda. It is a fantastic story about a young girl with magical powers.

In maths, we have been developing our problem solving skills using inverse operations to help us. We did so well at creating fact families and using our column method too.

Welcome back to our blog!

This week, we have started learning to play African drums. We learnt to play different rhythms on the djembe, djun-djun and conga drums. We worked on our drumming techniques to use the correct part of our hand and hit the drum to play bass and tone sounds. Our music teacher was very impressed, he taught us some call and response patterns too. We had lots of fun!

Happy New Year!!

Welcome to our first blog of 2026!

This week we have come back to school ready to learn and have tackled some tricky addition and subtraction calculations.

In English, we have been looking at character descriptions based on Roald Dahl's book Matilda.

Welcome back to our blog!

We have continued to create Stone Age art.

We used natural colours to decorate our cave wall.

We also worked as a class to create a cave wall featuring our handprints.

We have had some very special visitors in our class this week!

Welcome back to our blog.

This week we have been exploring cave paintings as part of our Stone Age topic. We collected materials from nature to make paint to create stone age art.

Then we used the natural materials to make marks, just like prehistoric artists would have done.

After that, we use spices (turmeric, cinnamon and paprika) to make our own paint. We added this to our Stone Age colour palette.

Finally, we used couscous and PVA glue to add texture to some card- so that it was more like a cave wall. Next week we will add some images using charcoal.

Welcome back to our blog.

Over the past 2 weeks we have been exploring column addition and subtraction using dienes to help us when we need to exchange.

Look at the photos below.

Welcome back to our blog.

This week we had a visit from the poet Andy Tooze. Year 3 worked with Andy to create their own poems about different animals.

We performed them for Andy and some of us were selected to perform our poems for the whole school.
