12th November

This week in pre-school, our main focus was on Remembrance Day.

We briefly explained to the children about the symbolic poppy flower and what this means.

The children used their developing scissor skills to cut out Remembrance day bunting in our funky fingers sessions.

and also made poppies using a variety of creative materials ready to partake in the silence on Thursday morning

We also used poppies in our maths lesson!

We looked at the different sizes of poppies and placed them in order from largest to smallest.  Some of us even worked as a team to create a repeating pattern with them!

We took part in the silence at 11 am on Thursday morning by holding our poppies and watching the CBeebies Remembrance Day clip.  We talked about how the dark clouds meant the war was coming and how sad the bunny felt when it was hiding.  Although the children could not express how they felt in words, it was clear to see the empathy they felt for the rabbit.

We have really enjoyed accessing the doctor's surgery role play area this week!  We changed the home corner into a role play doctor's surgery after many children were re-enacting going for their booster injections and recent trips to the doctor.

We also welcomed another little girl into the number 4 club!

Happy birthday!

Finally.....

We used the children's poppies to create a wreath on one of our classroom display boards.
