5.10.21

We are enjoying learning in year 1!

This week we are reading the story, 'Cat and Dog in a Mess' which is giving us the chance to practise our writing skills using sounds we know.

In maths we are continuing with our work on place value. Please continue to help us to count out the right amount of objects from a bigger group and recognise and write our numbers. We have been learning to compare amounts and numbers using 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to' and the <,> and = symbols.

In science we have been looking at the properties of materials and using scientific vocabulary to describe them. We have used words we are more familiar with like hard and soft, and introduced words like rough, smooth, waterproof and not waterproof.

In topic this week we will begin our work on self portraits and practise the skills we need for these such as holding our pencils gently, shading and highlighting.

Last week at the ALPs we had a lovely time using our maths skills to sort things into two groups. We sorted yellow leaves, big twigs, little twigs, brown leaves etc. Even though it had been raining lots it stayed dry for us while we were there and wasn't too muddy! Phew!
