6th September

Welcome to year 2!

We have had a lovely first week in year 2. Everyone has been so busy learning about all the new routines of year 2 and getting started with their year 2 learning.

English

This week we have learnt the poem, 'Do Yours Ears Hang Low' and we have written our own versions of this poem including our own rhyming words.

Maths

We have been looking at measuring length this week using cubes and centimetres.

We have challenged the children to practice counting at home. We asked them to practice counting forwards and backwards from 100 and from any number, and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Topic

We have introduced our topic, 'Wonderful Wigan' this week and the children have shared all the different things they already know about their local area.

Science

In Science we have introduced our topic, 'Animals including humans' and we sorted animals into different groups.

A quick reminder...

Please could Big Cat reading books be brought in each day, even if they don't need changing. We want to encourage the children to read a couple of pages each night and bring their reading book back to school each day. We do read with the children at different points throughout the week so need to have access to their reading books daily.

Maths homework will be given each Friday, to be returned the by the following Friday.

Our PE day this year is Thursday, please can you ensure children have their PE kits in school on this day.

That's all for this week,

thank you for reading and we will see you again next week

Love from

Mrs Hannon, Mrs Haselden

and all of Year 2F
