Friday 10th November

What a busy week!

Congratulations to Molly, Mason A, Jessica H and Kian for being the first Y1F children to achieve their red spelling badge and being an inspiration for others to work towards their spelling badges.

English

In English we have been looking at the Julia Donaldson book, 'The Snail and the Whale' we have written similes about the hot and cold places in the story. Similes are special sentences which compare something to something else and help the reader to build up a picture of what the place or thing looks like. For example, the lava was hot like the sun, the sky is blue like the sea, the turtles shell is hard like a rock, the monkey is as brown as the tree trunk (these are all the children's ideas!).

Maths

In maths we have continued to work on addition. We are looking at number bonds and how different parts can add to make the same whole. We have been working systematically (in order) to find all of the number bonds and solving problems. We have been grown up enough to decide if we needed a tens frame or part-whole model (new approaches - don't worry if you haven't heard of them before!!) to solve the addition number sentences.

Science

In science we have continued our work on seasons by discussing different types of weather. We also talked about which weather we typically expect in each season.

Spring - rain (to water the new plants)

Summer - hot, sunshine

Autumn - mild, windy

Winter - cold, snowy

Topic

FInally, in topic we have been thinking about what we would need to pack to visit a hot place or a cold place. We also learnt about the hot and cold places where they are in relation to the equator using a globe and world map!

Have a great weekend,

Get lots of rest, we have been really tired this week!

Lots of love,

Miss Rose, Mrs Duckworth and Mrs Grundy
