Friday 12th January

Hello and welcome back to 5W’s blog

We carried on working on multiplication this week; moving on to multiplying 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers.

23 x

We then moved on to multiplying larger numbers 3 and 4 digit numbers by a 2 digit number. It was really tricky!

We started the week listening to bedtime stories. Yes, that’s what I said, bedtime stories! Luckily, we didn’t fall asleep! Our job was to compare the two stories, listing the similarities and differences. Following this, we ‘magpied’ (took from the texts) words and phrases that we thought would be useful in our writing. We followed this by designing our own dragon that would also become part of our stories.

We began our new Science topic this week; Earth and Space. Miss Power gave us a quiz, to find out what we knew already. It was a multiple choice. Some of the questions were really tricky. However, Miss explained that she didn’t think we would know all the answers but by the end of the topic, hopefully we would know more.

Topic was great fun this week; we got to make Viking God Top Trump cards. We studied the properties of Odin, Thor, Freya, Freyr, Loki and Tyr (just a few of the Viking Gods) then chose four to make into our cards. We gave them scores out of 100 for: strength, magical power/ weapons, intelligence and charm.

Pupil of the Week is Amber Foster;

for taking charge of her own learning, in maths at home, and researching the next step in long multiplication; multiplying a 4digit number by a 2 digit number. Brilliant! So much so she was awarded the trophy. That’s two weeks on the run our class has been awarded it!!

Have a good weekend.
