Friday 12th May 2017

Well hello, and welcome back to the Year 4 blog.

This week in English, we have completed our book `Voices in the Park'.  We looked this week at the perceptions of Charles' mum and Smudge's dad.  We thought once more about what they said and how they said it and what this told us about their characters.

Check out the online book here.

Then why not try our online quiz here.

In Maths, we have been doing more work on shape -in particular, 2D shapes.  We have been looking at triangles, quadrilaterals, parallelograms, trapeziums, kites...exhausting eh?Image result for out of breath emoji

Would you know your trapezium from your kite?  Or your your equilateral triangle from your isosceles?  Why not test your knowledge on this link here.

In Science, whilst studying our `Living Things' topic, we have been looking at branching databases.

These are a way of classifying a group of objects. If it has been designed properly, someone else could use the tree to identify one of the objects. It could be used, for example, to classify mini-beasts, musical instruments, white powders or fruit.  These are sometimes called `binary tree', as there are only two options - 1 and 0.  With this type of tree it is `yes' or `no'.

Take a look.

On Thursday we went outside to design our own, which on Friday we wrote up.  Take a look at the pictures below.
Hey, here's an idea.  How would you like to make your own branching database?  Why not try it out here.

Drop in next week for more news about our work.

Finally, have your say.  Each week you will have a chance to decide on which new song we will learn in next week's whole school assembly.  Click on the link below to take part in an online vote. (Note -this is carried from last week's choices.)
