Friday 12th May

Friday 12th May

Welcome to this week’s blog from Year 5F.

Maths – The children have been finding out about angles. They know that a right-angle has 90°, that an acute angle has less than 90°, an obtuse angle is greater than 90°, a straight line measures 180° and a reflex angle is greater than 180°. They have been using a protractor to measure angles as well as draw their own angles. Take a look at this website which allows you to measure angles, make your own angles and estimate the size of an angle...

English – The children have been investigating the features of an information text. They have been given a range of different leaflets to look through and spot as many features as they can. In groups, they then created a poster to show all the features they could find. Take a look at these photographs of them during English this week…

Topic – The children have been learning about the Peloponnesian War. The Peloponnesian War was fought between the Greek city-states of Athens and Sparta. It lasted from 431 BC to 404 BC. They have investigated what life was like for a Greek soldier (called a hoplite). Then, they used all their knowledge to write their own Battle Cry to rally their troops into fighting against their mortal foe. Some of the children wrote from the point of view of a Spartan, whilst others wrote as an Athenian.

Science – The children have been looking at the force known as air resistance. Watch this short film clip which helps to explain…

They looked at everyday situations where air resistance occurs and then wrote about them. Can you think of when you meet air resistance in everyday life?

Here is our CERTIFICATE WINNER for this week. He won for making a conscious effort to improve his handwriting. His presentation of work is making him stand out from the crowd.

All that remains to say is have a fabulous weekend and we’ll see you again on Monday.

Finally, have your say.  Each week you will have a chance to decide on which new song we will learn in next week's whole school assembly.  Click on the link below to take part in an online vote. (Note -this is carried from last week's choices.)
