Hello and welcome to 5w’s blog of the week.
Maths
This week in maths the children have been learning and working around time. Lots and lots of work has been done this week in different areas relating to time. We have been looking at telling the time on both analogue and digital clocks. We looked at o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to the hour, moving on to reading the time in 1 and 5 minute intervals. After that, we converted between analogue and digital time, looking at 12 hour time and then 24 hour time. Finally the children looked at timetables and word problems relating to time. We are all timed out now!
English
This week in English the children have been looking at more myths in detail. The children have been given and read long versions of the story and they were challenged with the task of condensing the story down, just to the ‘bare bones’ and re-writing them in bullet points. The children then watched a video explaining the story of ‘Demeter and Persephone’ and completed character descriptions, including the characters personalities and the story setting.
Topic
We have continued this week our topic ‘Ancient Greeks’. The class have been finding out how life was like in Sparta and Athens. They looked at the Battle of Marathon and studied how this battle happened and how the two cities came together to help one another. The children have also looked at Greek Pots designs and collecting ideas of how they would like theirs to look.
Science
We have looked at how we can separate materials using different methods this week. The children explored the different methods- condensation and evaporation, filtering, magnetism, decanting and sieving. They then decided which method they would need to use to separate materials.
Our certificate winner this week was Erin, for being the ‘perfect pupil’. She is always kind, friendly, helpful and hardworking. A real credit to 5W.
All that is left to say is I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will see you on Monday.
