Friday 16th February

Hello and welcome back to 5W’s blog; our final week before half term.

Maths

This week we moved onto fractions. These can be tricky. However, guess what, if you know your tables it can really help you!

A fraction is part of whole, for example 1/2 1/4 The top number of the fraction is the numerator and the bottom number is the denominator.

We then coloured in a fraction wall. This shows equivalent fractions. Equivalent fractions are fractions that look different but mean the same. For example 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8 = 5/10 = 6/12

English

Carrying on with the Iron Man Story, we were given little slips of text and our job was to;

  1. Re-write it correcting the punctuation e.g. putting capital letters and full stops.

  2. Highlight figurative language (similes, alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia).

Following this, Miss Power read and extract to us. We highlighted certain important parts that would help us answer some comprehension questions. We also got to design our own robots, which we surrounded with describing words before putting them in sentences.

    Science

This week was all about the moon; the different phases to be exact.

Topic

In topic this week we looked at the Earth. We marked the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn (lines of latitude)

We also looked at the different time zones (lines of longitude)

RE

Let’s not forget our trip to St Francis Church this week. Thanks to Mrs Roberts for organising it. The Reverend Hayes was impressed by our knowledge but did answer all questions that arose from our visit.

Pupil of the week is

Ruby Cunliffe for being recognised by a KS1 parent for being caring, attentive, mature and an overall ‘Perfect Play Leader’ which resulted in a beautiful bunch of flowers for our reliable Ruby!! We are so proud of you!!

Have a happy, healthy half term break. See you all on Monday 26th February.
