Welcome to Y5F’s blog for the week! As usual, it has been another busy week!
Maths – This week the children have continued investigating fractions. They have continued work on converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions and converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. After that, the children began to investigate finding the lowest common multiple. This involved looking at two or three numbers and finding a multiple that they all had in common. For example…
Multiples of 2 are..
2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 34 36 38 40 42
Multiples of 3 are…
3 6 9 12 15 18 21 24 27 30 33 36 39 42
Multiples of 7 are…
7 14 21 28 35 42

English – This week we have continued working based on our class novel, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The children have continued to write their own version of the beginning of the story. After their Iron Giant falling and shattering everywhere they have got it to reconstruct itself.
Also, some of the children have been investigating adding ed and ing endings to verbs. Others have been finding out about adding the suffixes ise, ate and ify to words.
Topic – The children have begun their new topic for this half term called CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN. They have completed map work, using atlases to help, in their books. They have located mountain ranges, and their highest peak, and then marked them onto a world map in their books.
