Hello and welcome back to 5W’s blog of the week!
Maths
We have been continuing our work on fractions this week. We have looked at adding and subtracting fractions, using our knowledge from the previous week, where we had to change the denominators to the same number, in order to do so. Towards the end of the week we looking at mixed fractions and improper numbers, and converting between the two. Very clever stuff indeed!
English
We looked at the next part of our wordless book Tuesday, where the pigs start to fly at the end. The children started the week by using main and subordinate clauses in our writing. We looked at varying the position of the subordinate clause in our sentences and some even started their clause with relative pronouns! Super clever work. The children then included their sentences in their final part of the story.
The children have also researched all about Wigan and The Lake District, using the internet and made lots of notes. We use these notes to compare Wigan to The Lake District to write a non-chronological report about the two.
Our certificate winner this week was Nikyta, for working her socks off in English to produce sentences that included main and subordinate clauses. She even challenged herself to move the subordinate clause around, sometimes putting it at the beginning of the sentence, at the end and even embedding it! Well done Nikyta.
Well done to all our children who are working super hard to achieve their spelling badges. Fantastic to see so many children achieving their bronze, silver, gold and even platinum! Let’s keep this up!
The children in both 5W and 5F have been working extremely hard to learn their lines for our Easter assembly. We cannot wait to see you all next Wednesday (23rd March) at 9am for our Easter production!
Remember if you are bringing in a decorated egg for the Easter Egg competition they need to be in on Monday 21st March, to be judged. All eggs will be on display in the middle phase for parents to come and have a look on Monday after school.
All that is left to say is have a fantastic weekend, I will see you all on Monday morning for our last three days of the spring term!!! We break up at 3.15pm on Wednesday 23rd March.
