Friday 1st December

Friday 1st December

Welcome to Y5F’s blog for this week. It has been another busy week and we have been working hard.

Maths – This week in Maths the children have been investigating square and cube numbers. A square number is the product of multiplying a number by itself. So, 7x7=49…therefore 49 is a square number. A cube number is the product of multiplying a number by itself and then by itself again. So, 2x2x2=8. Therefore 8 is a cube number. The children investigated cube numbers practically. Here are some photographs of them during Maths this week…

Here is a link to the BBC website which will help you to understand square and cube numbers a little further…

English – This week the children have been looking at the features of non-chronological reports. These are reports that don’t need to be in time order. Here is a checklist showing some of the features you would expect to find…

The children are enjoying our new class noel How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cresswell. The children looked at the front cover and made predictions of what they think the book might be about…

Next, they watched the film in order to compare it to the book as we read it. Also, they have watched The Book of Dragons, which details lots of facts about the different classes of dragons contained within the book. They are using these facts to plan for a non-chronological report all about dragons.

Science – The children have been looking at the lifecycle of human beings. It begins with foetus, followed by baby, then toddler, next childhood, after that adolescence, then adulthood, moving onto old age. We talked about how the human lifecycle continues during adulthood when humans reproduce.
