Welcome to this half term’s first blog from Year 5F. It has been a busy first week back.

Maths – This week the children have been reasoning addition and subtraction problems with missing digits. They have had to apply the inverse (the opposite operation) to solve the problems.

English – This week the children have been exploring the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright. They have looked at the vocabulary the poet chose and have spotted the personification, alliteration, metaphors and repetition he used.

Have a listen to the poem…

After that, they thought about Halloween and what a witch might put into their cauldron and wrote their own version of the poem called The Witch’s Cauldron.

Science – This week the children have been learning about the different stages in the lifecycle of a mammal. Then, they investigated the different stages in the lifecycle of humans. This short film clip helps to explain in more detail…

Here is our certificate winner for the week. She won for coming into school every day this week despite not feeling 100%. She has quietly got on with all her work with no fuss because she really wanted to be in school. smileysmileysmiley Congratulations from everyone in Year 5.

All that remains to say is have a fabulous weekend. Take care and enjoy the fireworks if you are celebrating Bonfire Night over the weekend. We will see you again on Monday.
