Friday 20th November

Friday 20th November

Welcome back to Year 5F’s blog. As always it has been another busy and exciting week.

Maths – This week we have been looking at factors. Factors are numbers that will divide equally into another number. For example, the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12 will all divide into the number 12 because 1x12=12, 2x6=12 and 3x4=12.

Why not try this online game and see if you can become a FACTOR MILLIONAIRE!

Also, we have been making a HUGE effort to learn our 7 times tables and division facts. Could you please help your child at home by asking them to recite the facts and test them to see if they can answer quick fire multiplication and division questions?

English – This week we have begun to look at our new class novel called How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. We have been finding out about the different classes of dragons that exist on the Island of Berk. Also, we have met the main character called Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third. We have taken notes on dragons from the Book of Dragons and then written a description of our very own dragon that could be included in the book.

Topic – We have continued to look at Viking long ships. We have sketched our own designs in our books. Then, we produced a final piece of artwork using oil pastels. Our artwork is going to be displayed in class in our very own LONG SHIP ART GALLERY.

Science – We have continued with our topic all about Animals Including Humans. The children have been investigating both the challenges and benefits of becoming elderly. They discovered that when you reach 65 you can retire from work so have more time to spend on hobbies or with your family. On the other hand, as your body ages it can become tired. Also, some elderly people are unable to take care of themselves anymore and might need help from their family or have to move into a care home.

Our CERTIFICATE WINNER this week is Corey for making a massive effort to remain focused in the classroom AND to improve his behaviour on the playground. A big well done from all of us! smiley

So, as you can see it has been another amazing week here in Year 5. All that remains to say is to have a fantastic weekend and we will see you back in school on Monday.
