Friday 21st September 2018

Hello,

What a lovely week we have had.  The children are settling in well and are getting used to the routines of year 1.  We have a new record in 1W this week as we have claimed the pupil of the week trophy 2 consecutive weeks running! We are going for the hat-trick  next week. Fingers crossed!

Our certificate winner this week, and pupil of the week, was Megan for being a silent superstar.  She always gives 100% and works so hard at all she does.  Well done Megan.

This week:

In Maths we have been working on our place value to 20.  We have been recognising, ordering and writing our numbers.  We have also been using counters to find one more than a given number.

In English, we have been continuing our work on 'The Gruffalo.' We have been learning about adjectives - describing words - this week and have been thinking of lots of adjectives to describe the character of the mouse.

In Science, we have been exploring a range of different materials and using scientific vocabulary to describe them. We have been especially focusing on the vocabulary of hard and soft.

In Topic, we have been sketching our self portrait using all of the things that we have learnt over the past few weeks.  We could really see the improvements in our drawings.

In Music, we have been learning about how to find the pulse of the music, as well as clapping rhythms.  We listened to the song from 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' as an example of rap music, then sang our own rap - Hey You!

We have sent home some letter and number formation booklets for your children to practise at home.

Have a lovely weekend.

Miss Lodge, Ms Rose and Mrs Mason.
