Friday 22nd June

Friday 22nd June

Welcome to Year 5F’s blog for the week. It has, as always, been a hectic and busy week with lots going on!

Maths – This week the children have been investigating the perimeter of a shape. The perimeter is the measurement ALL the way around the outside of a shape. WE can do this by adding all the lengths and widths together.

Have a look at this website which lets you explore perimeter for yourself…

English - The children have continued to complete work based around the novel Bill’s New Dress by Anne Fine, where Bill wales up to find he is a girl. They have continued to write their own version of the book for themselves. They imagined that Bill swaps body with his mum or dad and then must drive and spend the day in work. This has often ended in disaster or with hilarious consequences.

Science - This week the children have been reviewing their FORCES topic. They produced a non-chronological report all about what they have learned about forces (such as, gravity, air resistance, water resistance, friction, buoyancy). They used features like bullet points, sub-headings, boxes to separate information as well as pictures, diagrams and captions.

Topic – The children have been learning how long ago The Ancient Greeks lived. They discovered that they lived approximately 700 years before the birth of Jesus. They then placed important events during the time of Ancient Greece onto a timeline.

On Thursday, Year 5 were invited to attend a PE morning at Shevington High School, alongside other primary schools from the area. They were split into groups of five and put into teams made up from all the participating schools. They then had to work as a team in various sporting activities. They played football rounders, dodge ball, quick cricket and lots of other exciting games. They had a brilliant time and as always their behaviour was superb.

Here is our certificate winner for this week. He won for working hard in Maths this week. He won for his enjoyment and enthusiasm during our PE morning at Shevington High School. Well done from all of us in Year 5F.

All that remains is to say goodbye for this week. We hope you have a great weekend and will see you again next week. Don’t forget to watch England playing their next match, versus Panama in the World Cup, on Sunday afternoon at 1pm on BBC 1. Come on England!
