Friday 24th June

Hello and welcome back to 5W's blog of the week.

Maths

This week in maths the children have been looking at scaling. This involves looking at recipes and changing them to suit another amount. For example if you had a recipe that served 6 and you needed to serve 12, you would simply double all the ingredients. The children scaled up and scaled down recipes and even potions.

English

This week the children have continued their work on Battle Cries. We have looked at persuasive writing and what techniques are used in order to successfully persuade. They looked at a variety of sentence types, perfect for a Battle Cry speech and wrote their own. Towards the end of the week the children used everything they have learnt over the past couple of weeks to write their own Battle Cries. They were absolutely brilliant and a delight to read! Well done 5W.

Topic

This week the children finished their Greek pots, they are wonderful!!! We also started to look at Native Americans in more detail. This week we studied the significance of the Totem Pole and why it is so special for Native Americans. The children picked 1 spirit animal, that has significance to their own life and 3 other animals they had a connection with. They then designed their very own Totem Pole using the animals they had selected.

This week it was 5W's turn to choose the music for our assembly. As our topic is 'New England', we chose A Letter from America by The Proclaimers. We have learnt how the Pilgrim Fathers went over to America and settled there, they called the place in North America, New England.

Our certificate winner this week was Ellie F, for her continuous hard work during our Battle Cry week. She would put any warrior to shame, step aside Braveheart. Well done Ellie.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will see you on Monday.
