Maths

This week was all about division. We completed some partial table sheets and stuck them in our books.

The following is the partial table for 5.

Using partial tables can help with short division. So 57÷3= 19

                1x3=3                           57

                2x3=6                        -30 (10x)

                4x3=12                        27

                 5x3=15                      -15 (5x)

               10x3=30                       12

                                                    -12 (4x)

                                                        0              10+5+4=19

 

English

In English this week we carried on with dragons as our theme, however our focus was poetry. We looked at some pictures and thought of adjectives to describe them. Following on from that, we wrote some simile sentences. Miss Power then gave us some examples of Dragon Poems and our job was to analysis them; looking for similes, rhythm, personification and alliteration. Finally, we wrote our own poems using some of the techniques we had learnt.

Topic

In topic we were given a Space file booklet to complete. We had to find facts about the planets in our solar system such as:-

  • Who was the planet named after?

  • What type of planet is it?

  • What is the temperature of the planet?

  • An interesting fact.

     

Pupil of the Week is Rihards for;

 

Simply being a hard working Year 5 pupil. He is mature, dedicated and overall a fabulous member of Year 5W!

Congratulations to all the Extreme Reader winners, who were announced in a special assembly. Especially in KS2, as it was Leah from our class.

And a further celebration, Well Done Harry for joining the GOLD wristband club!

 

Hope you all have a good weekend. Dare I say the mornings and nights do appear to be getting lighter? All we need now is some sun!
