Friday 27th April

Friday 27th April

Welcome to Year 5F’s blog for this week. It has been another busy week and the children have been working hard

On Wednesday, a company called HH Kids came in to school to work with the children This session was all about alcohol awareness. The children found out lots of facts about alcohol and the effects it has on the body. For example…did you know that alcohol affects all the major organs in the body? The heart speeds up whereas the brain slows down, which leads to poor co-ordination and your speech becoming slower. The children were shown a demonstration using different sized bottles filled with water to represent an adult body and a child’s body. The same amount of food colouring (to represent alcohol) was added to both but the smaller bottle (the child) went darker much quicker so the children realised that a child’s body is affected by alcohol much quicker than an adults.

Maths – This week the children have been investigating how to multiply a unit fraction by a unit fraction. They then moved onto multiplying fractions by a whole number. Take a look at how to do it here…

Take a look at this website which lets you have a go at multiplying fractions for yourself…

English - The children have begun to look at a new book called Tuesday by David Wiesner. It is a wordless book. The children have been looking at some of the pictures and have begun to make predictions about what might happen. After that, they watched an animated version of the book. They will be starting to make their own version of the book next week, but they will write the words.

Here is our certificate winner this week. She won for being on fire in English this week. Great writing and reading, making GIANT steps in progress. Well done from us all in 5F.

All that remains is to say goodbye for this week and to wish you a happy weekend.
