Friday 27th September

Friday 27th September 2019

Welcome to our blog for this week in school. It has been another busy week in Year 5F.

Maths – This week the children have been learning about powers of 10, 100 and 1 000. This is making a number bigger or smaller by 10, 100 or 1 000. This involves multiplying or dividing numbers by 10, 100 or 1 000. To do this numbers will move along a place value chart. To become bigger they move to the left whereas to become smaller they move to the right. Here is what a place value that your child will use in school looks like…

Take a look at this game which explains what happens to a number when you multiply it by 10 or 100…

English – This week the children have been writing their Hot Task. Over the past two weeks they have been investigating vocabulary and sentence types and then practised using them in their writing. All this has been building up into them writing their own description of a creature that works in a factory.

Topic – The children have been investigating biomes around the world. A biome is an area of land or water that have similar climate, plant and animal life. They then worked together in groups to produce a poster about each biome and gave a short presentation to the class.

Science – The children have been investigating the conditions a seed needs to be able to grow. They have learned about germination, when a seed grows into a plant. Take a look at this short film clip which shows the germination process…

Here is our certificate winner for the week. She won for reading with a partner every morning, reading with Mrs Roberts every day, completing IDL daily, reading at home every night and doing it all with a smile on her face!!! Congratulations from everyone in Year 5. smileysmileysmiley

All that remains to say is have a fabulous weekend and we will see you again on Monday.
