Welcome back to Year 4 blog. Another busy week has just flown by.

In English, we have been looking once again at explanations. Our focus this week was the `Pocket Money Maker Machine’. This was an idea and design by Mr P that was inspired by Pie Corbett’s Teacher Pleaser Machine. Take a look at the picture below.

We worked our way through the machine explaining how it works.  We tried to get a range Year 4 objectives in our writing.  See our examples below.  Can you spot that we have used paragraphs?  Can you spot any fronted adverbials?  Can you see that we have kept our `was’ and `were’ correct?

In Maths, we have been looking at the relationship between km, m, c, mm.  We have been converting some of these units to others.  There are 1000 metres in 1 kilometre.  Therefore, to find how many metres are in 4.6 km, we need to multiply 4.6 by 1000.  Like this, 4.6 x 1000 = 4600m.  Easy, right?  This links all the way back to the work on Place Value that we covered in September.  All around things being 10 x, 100 x, or 1000 x bigger (or smaller for divide) and how many places the digit shifts for each one.  The secret each, count the zeros.  For 10, there is one zero so we shift the digit one place.  For 100, there are two zeros so the digit shifts two places and so on.  Using this, can you answer the problems below.  We can.surprise
We have been busy on Friday afternoon working on Minecraft.  As you will know, we have been redesigning the school ALPS.  Take a look at our screen shots -haven’t we done a lot of work so far?

Finally, have your say.  Each week you will have a chance to decide on which new song we will learn in next week's whole school assembly.  Click on the link below to take part in an online vote.
