Friday 28th January

Good morning and welcome to this week’s blog for Y6F. It has been another busy week here on the Upper Phase of school.

Maths - This week in Maths the children have been finding percentages of an amount. They began by looking at the relationship between percentages and fractions…

50%=1/2(÷2)           25%=1/4(÷4)           10%=1/10(÷10)      1%=1/100(÷100)

Once the children had seen the connection finding a percentage of an amount was much easier. Click on the link below to watch a video explaining in further detail…

English - We have continued with our class novel, Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll. The children are really enjoying finding out what life was like for an evacuee during World War II. Also, this week the children have been working on SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar).

Science – The children were asked to investigate what happens to your heart rate and breathing rate if you exercise. They made predictions using what they already know and then went about their investigation. The children predicted that both their heart rate (pulse) and breathing rate would go up.

To prove their predictions, they each measured their pulse and breathing rate for a minute (their resting rate) and recorded it. Next, they exercised and then measured their pulse and breathing rate again. This showed an increase. Once again, they exercised (this time for a longer duration) and measured their statistics after completion. This time their heart and breathing rate had increased even further. This proved that they were indeed correct in their predictions!

This is our certificate winner for this week. She won for her continued efforts with all her schoolwork. She is really applying herself and is growing in confidence. Well done and keep it up!

That’s all for this week. Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you all again on Monday. We can’t quite believe it’s going to be February next week…where has January gone?
