Friday 28th September

Hello and welcome to 5W’s blog. The weather might be on the change to welcome the autumn, but we’re still working hard!

Maths

Being able to write dates in roman numerals was how we began our week.

For example 2018 would be MMXVIII

Following on from this, we worked on adding 10, 100 and 1000 to different numbers, noticing how some of the columns didn’t change. Some of us moved on to adding 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000.

English

Each week we are given spellings to learn. This week the words have a short vowel sound (i) spelt with a (y). We practice them each morning and take them home to learn for homework.

Our focus was still on our class novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Miss Power gave us a copy of some of the text. We had to highlight parts and say what we understood. So when it said ‘Charlie burst in through the door,’ it meant ‘he rushed in at speed.’

Miss Power also gave us quotes from the book and we had to write what we thought was meant.

Our writing was a description of an Oompa Loompa.

Science

In science, we looked at habitats more closely. In particular, we thought about what a woodland is like. We also looked at parts of a flower and the function that they have.

Pupil of the week is …… Maisey Halliwell for her calm consistent approach to her learning in school and at home. Also for being a ray of sunshine! Well done and congratulations on winning the cup!

Birthdays

A very happy birthday to Aaron, who celebrated his birthday earlier this week. Hope you had a great day and thanks for the sweeties!

Well, we’ll say bye for now, have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Monday.
