Friday 5th November

Friday 5th November 2021

Welcome to Y6F’s blog for this week. It has been a busy first week back for this half term.

English – We have nearly completed our class novel, Street Boy by Berlie Doherty. The children can’t wait to find out what happens next to Jim. He is currently with his cruel master Grimy Nick. We are all hoping that he manages to escape and find a happy ending for himself.

The children have been looking at a short film clip by Disney entitled Feast. They have been using this as a stimulus to help them in their writing. This week they have been collecting vocabulary and writing descriptive sentences about Winston, the pup in the film. Take a look at the clip here…

Maths – The children have begun to investigate fractions. They have learned about equivalent fractions, how to simplify fractions and placed fractions onto number lines. Phew! Take a look at these short film clips which explain equivalent fractions and how to simplify (or reduce) fractions…

Topic – This week the children have been working with atlases to locate ‘cities of culture’ around the world. They began by reminding themselves of the seven continents and labelling them on a map. Also, they listed them in size order from largest to smallest. They then used an atlas to locate important cities, and their countries, around the world. The cities that they will be learning about over the next few weeks are Buenos Aires, Cairo, Moscow, New Delhi, Sydney, Tokyo and Washington DC.

Following on from this, they completed some artwork sketching The Sydney Opera House. Here is a selection of their work…

Here is our certificate winner this week. He won making a mature decision to help himself learn better and consequently fulfil his true potential. Well done – we have all been very impressed with you this week.

All that remains to say is have a fabulous weekend. Enjoy the Bonfire Night celebrations and stay safe! We will see you all again on Monday.
