Friday 5th October

Hello and welcome to 5W’s blog.

Maths

We started our Maths with 5 in 5. This is where Miss Power gives us 5 maths questions that we must complete in 5 minutes. They are all the types of calculations that we have done before; column addition, multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 or 1000, doubling and halving to name a few.

Our next task was to study and understand reading scales, namely thermometers. This can be quite tricky as you need to work out what the divisions are worth (they can be different on each scale).

Try and read the different scales

English

Our English work, at the beginning of the week, was based on chapter 19, the Invention room. We read the chapter and then answered some comprehension questions on it.

Following this, we looked at the features of a non-chronological report. Then we had to find the features in a given text.

We then planned, edited, redrafted and wrote a non-chronological report on Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory. We had to include the features we had looked at previously.

Science

Following on from looking at and labelling the parts of a flower, we went on to learn about how flowers are pollinated.

Topic

Topic was all about biomes. Biomes are a way of dividing up the Earth’s surface. The five basic biomes are wetland/rainforest, grassland/savanna, desert, tundra and forests.

Pupil of the week is …… Lewis Carrick for a marked improvement with his handwriting and for making the effort to read EVERY night this week! Keep it up!

Birthdays

May we wish a very happy birthday to Emily, who celebrated her birthday last weekend. Hope you had a fun filled day and many thanks for the goodies!

School Trip

May we remind everyone that our trip to Martin Mere is next week  (Wednesday 10th October). For those who have not returned a permission slip and or paymet yet, time is ruuning out! We would be most grateful if this could be sorted as soon as possible.

Thanks

Well, we’ll say bye for now, have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Monday.
