Friday 6th December

Friday 6th December 2019

Welcome to this week’s blog. It has been another busy week in year 5F. Congratulations to everyone in Year 5F for having the highest attendance in school for last week, resulting in an ‘own clothes’ day today. Yippee!

Maths – This week the children have continued to investigate prime and composite numbers. They have also investigated square numbers and cube numbers.

A square number is the answer when a number is multiplied by itself.

5x5=25 therefore 25 is a square number

9x9=81 therefore 81 is a square number

A cube number is the answer when a number if multiplied by itself and then by itself again.

2x2x2=8 therefore 8 is a cube number

6x6x6=216 therefore 216 is a cube number

This website helps to explain square and cube numbers a little further…

English – This week the children have started to look at the features of newspapers.

They were given pictures to look at and then wrote their own headlines for them. Next, they looked at the opening paragraphs of newspaper reports for the 5 ws (who, where, when, what happened and why) Then, they looked at familiar stories (The Three Little Pigs, Humpty Dumpty etc) and wrote the 5ws for each story and their own opening paragraph to a newspaper report on the story.

Science – The children have looked at a line graph which shows the growth rate of boys and girls. They have interpreted the data on the graph and answered questions about it. Then they completed a ‘science short’ about the gestation period of mammals.

Topic – The children have completed their final piece of illuminated letter artwork using at least three different art materials. Also, they completed a comprehension on armour and weapons used during Viking times.

Here is our certificate winner for the week. She won for simply being herself. She is sensible, mature, hard-working and a delight to have in class. No matter what the circumstances, she just gets on! smileysmileysmiley Congratulations from everyone in Year 5.

All that remains to say is have a fabulous weekend and we will see you again on Monday. The Christmas Countdown has begun – only 19 more days till Father Christmas begins his epic sleigh ride around the world!
