Welcome back to 2WF's blog.
We've had a busy couple of weeks! We've done lots of exciting things!
In Science we did an investigation on human growth. Our question was, do children get faster as they grow older? We compared running times of 5 children from Year 2 and 5 children from Year 5. We then worked out the average time and compared the results. We found that as children get older they do get faster.
In Topic we have been looking at the art work of Theodore Major and creating our own versions of his work using sketching pencils and charcoal. The charcoal got very messy!
In English we have been reading the story Zog by Julia Donaldson. The children have been planning and writing their own version of the story using the animals tiger, giraffe and monkey. They have each thought about what that animal would need to learn to be that animal.
In maths the children have been focusing on addition. They have been adding on an empty numberline and using a three step strategy. For example:
35 + 23 = 58
35 + 20 = 55
55 + 3 = 58
The chidlren partition the second the number into tens and ones. Then add the tens to the first number, then add the ones to that answer.
We hope you have a great weekend! See you bright and early on Monday!
Love Miss Mousdell and Mrs Turton
