Friday 7th JUne

Hello and welcome back to the first blog of our final half term.

Maths

We have been working on decimal place value and partitioning decimal numbers, using place value charts to work this out.

Eg. 0.719 the value of the underlined number is seven tenths.

English

This week we have had a focus on poetry, reading ‘Last Night I Saw the City Breathing’ by Andrew Fusek Peters. We have been exploring the features of a poem and how personification has been used (I saw the city dancing). We then looked how personification could be used around the classroom and started to create our own poems using this format.

Topic

Our topic has been Ancient Greece, so this week we have been designing Greek pots, in preparation of making them in future lessons. Pots came in all sorts of shapes and sizes depending on their purpose, and were often beautifully decorated with scenes from daily life. Sometimes these scenes reflect what the pot was used for.

NSPCC

We were lucky enough to have a visit and a talk from the NSPCC, filled with lots of information about the work that is done in Greater Manchester, including the ‘Speak out. Stay safe.’ Programme.

Pupil of the week is … Jason Morrison for his amazing focus and determination during writing this week. Taking pride in his work, resulting in a great improvement across all writing tasks.
