Friday 8th November

English

We have been predicting what might happen in our new story ‘The Stone Age Boy’. I wonder if anyone was right!

This week there has also been a big focus of adverbials, especially fronted adverbials, and how we use them in our writing.

‘Suddenly, the door swung open.’

Maths

What a week, filled with addition and subtraction. Estimating and checking answers. We finished the week with an test, as well as taking turns on Times Tables Rock Stars. Next week we are looking at multiplication, so practice your times tables over the weekend!

Science

We learnt about the different rock types this week (metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary).

PSHE

Lest We Forget.

Now we know why we remember the 11th day of the 11th month, to remember and pay our respects to all the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty. We have discussed why we wear a poppy and even know that the poppy to remember the animals who have died during the war are purple.

P.E

We recapped the Haka from last week and added a few more steps. We have mastered the mean, scary look on our faces as we get into character.

Topic

Can you imagine living in a house made of stone, animal bone, animal skin, or manure? We have been looking at Stone Age houses and how they used to live all those years ago. We focused on Skara Brae, in Scotland, and even investigated what house number seven might have been used for!

Reading

Well done to everyone who is reading at least 3 times a week at home. That’s what I like to see. The best readers make the best writers. Keep it up. I’d love to see more children reading at home this week!
