Friday 8th September

Friday 8th September

Welcome to the very first blog of the school year from Year 5F. It has been a busy start to the year.

Maths – This week the children have been working on place value. They have investigated numbers up to seven digits. They have been thinking about the value of a digit in a whole number up to the millions column. Take a look at this website which will help you to work on place value with your child…

English – The children have planned and written a recount of what they did over the summer holidays. We have been amazed at the variety of activities and places visited that the children have written about. The children began the week by thinking about their favourite time during the holidays and writing a plan to describe what happened. Next, they looked at a recount that had already been written and underlined the interesting vocabulary used, the variety of different punctuation and the sequential words used (words that help the writing to follow on in time order). After that, they wrote their first draft and then edited it ready to write up their final piece of writing in their new English books.

Science – The children have begun their new topic called LIVING THINGS AND THEIR HABITATS. They thought about different living things we might find on our ALPS and what their habitat might be. On Thursday, we went over to the ALPS to investigate. Here are some pictures of the children and some of the different habitats they found…

Topic – The children have begun their new topic called WOODLANDS AND WETLANDS. They thought about all the different types of woodlands there are around the world as well as the different types of wetlands. They were extremely excited to discover that we will be visiting Martin Mere as part of our topic! They have produced some wonderful mind maps showing what they know about woodlands and wetlands already.

Here is our CERTIFICATE WINNER this week. He won it for fitting seamlessly into Year 5. He is an absolute asset to the class. Well done from all of Year 5F.

All that remains is to wish you all a fantastic weekend (despite the forecasted rain) and we will see you back in school on Monday.
