News just in....check out our school Twitter feed from the home page...Alex Bell, author of Polar Bear Explorers’ Club has commented on your work this week in English. Well done     Year 4👍

Welcome back to another amazing week in Year 4.

This week in English, we have been thinking about the qualities you would need to be an explorer.  In our class reader -Polar Bear Explorers' Club -the central character is Stella Starflake Pearl.  She is desperate to go on expeditions with Felix (her adopted father).  However, the rules of Polar Bear club is that no girls are allowed.  Felix convinces the president of the club to let Stella go on this expedition.  As the story unfolds we see the qualities of an explorer in Stella.  She is brave and selfless -she saves a wolf from being washed overboard when they are travelling on a ship.  She articulate -she explains how they should befriend some ice fairies called `frosties'.  She cares about her team -she is always looking out and protecting Beanie, her friend from school.

We then thought about the types of qualities that we have ourselves that might make us a good explorer.  On Thursday and Friday, we wrote a letter to the President of our preferred club to ask for us to become a member.  Take a look at some of our letters of application below.  Would you let us join the Explorers' Club?

In Maths, we have been working again on fractions.  This week we have been adding and subtracting fractions.  Yes!  Adding and subtracting fractions....impressive, huh?

Actually, once our teachers had shown us, it was really quite simple.  Take a look.

They are really simple aren't they?  Why not try adding some fractions for yourself -click here.  Or, try some subtraction -here.
Other news.  Last weekend, one of our boys was mascot for Wigan Latics -WOW!  He got to spend the whole day down at the stadium -had lunch, watched the match from the dugout.  Amazing!

Next week Year 4 are hoping to carry out some work in the ALPS (our outdoor learning area). This links to the book that we have been reading -The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club. This will take place Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning. Obviously, if the weather is too unpleasant we will carry out our work in class. It is essential that the children are wearing suitable clothing. Therefore, could we ask you to make sure that your child has a warm coat, hat and gloves if they have them, and suitable foot wear for working outside.
