Friday 9th March

Congratulations to Victoria for recieving the acheivement award this week for a fantastic piece of year 1 independent writing.

English

In English we have been reading the story, 'The Town and Country Mouse'. We have been thinking about how things are different in the town and in the countryside. We will finish off our writing next week pretending that we have visited the countryside, like the town mouse, and we will write about what we saw.

Maths

In maths we have been learning about numbers. We have used a 100 square to find 1 more and 1 less. We will continue with this next week and start counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Please help us with this at home.

Science

In science we have been observing our plants which we planted last week. We have also labelled the different parts of a plant, like the root, stem, leaves and the flower.

Topic

In topic we have been learning about Vincent van Gogh. We have learned about the different techniques he used in his artwork. Today we have painted the background of our sunflower painting using a wash, over the coming weeks we will be adding to our painting using different techniques used by van Gogh.

Don't forget the phonics pack are now available in school for you to help yourself to. They are next to the snack box in class. Please use the record sheet to tick off the packs you have had as they are all different. Please take care with these packs as they have taken a long time to put together and are an excellent resource to improve your child's word reading. Remember to use the strategy, Special friends, Fred talk, read the word to read the words accurately. Please follow the link below for a free app to use to prepare for the phonics screening check.

Have a great weekend!

Lots of love,

Miss Rose, Mrs Duckworth and Mrs Wright
