Friday 9th November 2018

Wow, another week has flown by...Where do they go? Well, the smart people will say ‘into the past’, and they’d be correct. So, maybe ‘another week has passed’ would be a better way of saying hello...or maybe just, “hello”.

As always here in Year 4 we’ve been really busy. On Monday, we started a new class reader. Our new book is called ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Phillip Pullman, and already, we’re hooked.  It is the story of Lalchand a firework maker, and his daughter Lila.  Lila is desperate to become a firework maker an so sets off on an adventure to Mount Merapi to meet the fire fiend Razvani.  Her father is dismayed as he realises how dangerous that journey is.

When Lalchand sets off to bring Lila back, he gets stuck in a grand procession. Chulak and Hamlet, Lila’s friends ( Hamlet is the King’s white elephant and Chulak looks after him) are making their way to the home of one of the King’s ‘ friends’. We used this picture to help us write about the scene. Take a look at some of our writing.

In Maths, we have come to the end of our unit on addition and subtraction. We have worked really hard at learning how to use the column method to work these out. Take a look, we’re sure you will have come across them before.

Catch you next week. Bye for now.
