Thursday 24th May

Welcome to Year 5F’s final blog for this half term. It has been another busy week and the children have been working hard.

On Tuesday, it was Sport’s Day for KS2. The children were just amazing. They gave their absolute best in every event despite the warm weather. A big thank you to all the spectators who could come along and show the children their support. Here are some photographs from the morning…

Maths – This week the children have been rounding decimal numbers up to the nearest whole number, up to one decimal place as well as up to two decimal places.

Take a look at this website which lets you have a go at rounding decimals for yourself…

English - The children have continued to complete work based around the novel Bill’s New Dress by Anne Fine. They have been thinking about the main character, Bill Simpson, who has woken up to find that he is a girl! Also, they have been using dictionaries to think about unfamiliar words in the text. They have then used a thesaurus to find synonyms (words which are similar in meaning) and antonyms (words which mean the opposite).

Science - This week the children have been learning about air resistance. They went on to make three different sized parachutes to investigate the effect of air resistance on each parachute. They made a prediction about which parachute would be the slowest to land on the floor and why.

Here is our certificate winner for this week. She won for making the least amount of fuss – despite brking her thumb during Sport’s Day. What a trooper. Well done from us all in 5F.

All that remains is to say goodbye for this week and to wish you a happy half term. We look forward to seeing you al again on Monday 4th June.
