Welcome to our first blog of Year 2!

We are so excited to start our new topics, texts and learning now that we are in Year 2 and have had a great couple of weeks settling into our new classroom and getting to know our new teachers.

In English we are reading the story 'George's Marvellous Medicine'. It's about a boy who makes his own medicine for his grandma, which ends up making her grow as big as a house! We have really enjoyed it so far and can't wait to find out the ending. We decided to make our own medicines and think of what we might put in them if we were George.

In Maths we have been learning about measure. We have measured length, capacity and mass as well as temperature. We are already quite good at reading different scales to help us measure these things.

Our new Topic is 'Wonderful Wigan'.  We have been researching information about Richard Ashcroft (a famous musician), Sir Ian McKellen (a famous actor), June Croft (an Olympic swimmer), George Formby (a famous musician and actor) and Theodore Major (a famous painter) and do you know what they all have in common? They are ALL Wonderful Wiganers!!

In Science we are learning about animals including humans, and what they need to survive. This week we have been sorting animals into the different groups they belong to.

Last week our class got 100% attendance and were able to wear our own clothes on Friday - we were so excited to do this and Mrs Hannon is hoping we have many more weeks like this because remember...excellent attendance means outstanding progress!!

Anyway, that's all for this week, see you again next week

Lots of love

Mrs Hannon, Mrs Turton, Miss Grimshaw

and all of Y2F
