WC 11th September

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome back to our class blog. What a busy couple of weeks we've had in year 2 so far!

In English we have been reading the story 'The Troll'  We have been describing the troll and thinking about how it is similar to other stories such as 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. We decided to write our own version of the story including our own animals such as cats, dogs, hippos and even unicorns.

In Maths we have been working on place value. We have been ordering numbers and spelling their names. We have also been partitioning numbers to find out how many 10s and 1s are in them and are getting really good at it.

In Science we have been learning about animals including humans. We have learnt about the different groups of animals - mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish. We have also been thinking about animals and their babies, and how they change as they grow.

Our topic this half term is 'Wonderful Wigan'. We have been learning about what makes our town so wonderful! We have been learning about the famous people who have come from Wigan and the surrounding areas such as Richard Ashcroft, Sir Ian McKellen, George Formby, Theodore Major and Sir Bradley Wiggins.

We had a fabulous ending to our first few weeks in year 2 by getting to wear our own clothes for getting the highest attendance too! What a fabulous end to our first few weeks!

That's all for this week, see you again next week

Love
